Main Focus:  To present the basic framework of Islam.

Learning Abilities: Students seem to reach a rut at this point.  Boys tend to be unruly and girls seem to be preoccupied with status, friend issues and their self-esteem.

Formats to Avoid: Straight lectures.

Preferred Format: Stories, outdoor activities, hands-on activities, artistic presentations and activities.

After the Completion of this Grade
the Students Should Know the Following:

Qur'anic Knowledge

1. Surahs Al Layl, Al Bayyinah, Ash Shamms, Ayat- 31:12-19, 3:84-85, 3:102-105, 3:110. (English/Arabic)


1.  All the information on this subject as contained within the primary textbook.


1. The children should be taught the Tayammum procedure. Actually practice it in class, then go outside and let them practice it. Grade their competent demonstration of the procedure.

2. List the basic parts of the Khutba procedure but avoid going into technical information. The basic parts are: The Adhan is given for the Sunnah prayer. The Imam sits on the "Minbar." The Adhan is given again. The Imam begins with adiyat and praise of Allah and then speaks about his topic. The Iman sits for a moment and says a Du'a and then stands to deliver the second part of his Khutba. The Imam closes with Adiyat and calls the congregation to prayer. The Iqamah is given and the people line up in rows. The two-rakah prayer finishes and people do their Sunnah prayers and disperse.

3. Introduce in greater detail the procedure and the concept of the Witr Salah.

4. The do's and don't of Salah will be enumerated. Stare at the place of Sajda at all times is the best.

5. The Ghusl procedure will be taught in full.

6. The Sunnah Salah of the Tahiyatul Masjid will be introduced.

Du'a, Phrases & Hadith

1.  When we leave the Masjid, we say, "Allahumma inne as-aluka min fadlika."  "O Allah  I ask for Your generosity."   (Muslim)

2.  "Al Jamaa'atu barakatun."  "The group is blessed."  (Abu Dawud)

3.  "As Sawmu Junnatun."  "Fasting is a shield (against sins)."  (Tirmidhi)

4.  Adh-dhikru ni'matun."  "Remembering Allah is a blessing."

5.  Ahabbul biladi ilallahi masaajiduhu."  "Allah loves His Masjids more than any other place."  (Muslim)

6.  "Irhamu Turhamu."  "Show mercy and you will be shown mercy."  (Bukhari)

7.  "Al hayaa'u khayrun kulluhu."  "Everything about modesty is good."  (Muslim)

8.  "Allahumma ajirnee min an naar."  "Allah protect me from Hell-fire."

9.  When we hear that someone died we say, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un."  "To Allah we belong and to Him we return."

1.  The stories of the following Prophets/People should be taught in an interesting way. The students can take turns reading from selections which the teacher will hand out or provide.
